Can you attack with one unit, kill it, then Ambush Stalking Wolf?

Can you attack a battlefield with one unit, kill it, and then play Stalking Wolf to Ambush there? Reddit suggests otherwise.

No. If you no longer have a unit at the battlefield, the Ambush does not work. Even if reminder text were rules text, the wording only makes the location legal — without a friendly unit, Ambush will not grant reaction speed and the legality check fails.
