Does an additional Chaos cost mean on top of the base cost?

A card says: "If you've played a spell this turn, you may pay 1 Chaos as an additional cost to play me. If you do, I enter ready."

Do I pay 1 Chaos instead of the base cost, or on top of it?

On top of the base cost. "As an additional cost" works like a discounted Accelerate.
