Can Atakhan be played from Rek'Sai's ability if Rek'Sai is already dead?

Rek'Sai's conquer ability puts a unit from hand on the chain to play "here." If Rek'Sai dies before I choose and play Atakhan, is Atakhan legal?

Is "here" checked at Rek'Sai resolution or at step 5 of playing the unit?

Atakhan can be played. "Here" is checked on execution of the instruction when Rek'Sai's trigger resolves, not at step 5 of playing the follow-up unit, per rule 359.3.f.
