Does hidden Edge of Night still require an equip cost, and where can it be hidden?

Edge of Night can be played as regular equipment to your base, and you then pay the normal equip cost. It also has the option to hide it at a battlefield and later equip it to a unit there at reaction speed, which does not require paying the equip cost.
