Does Bewitching Spirit's discard still resolve if Elder Dragon kills it on the chain?

I put Bewitching Spirit's ability on the chain, then my opponent puts Sacrifice on the chain killing their herald, which puts Elder Dragon's play effect on the chain targeting my Spirit. If Elder Dragon kills Bewitching Spirit, does the Spirit die, and does its discard effect still resolve afterward?
