Do you lose battlefield control while chain items are pending during cleanup?

If a combat death creates pending Deathknell during cleanup, can control of the battlefield be lost immediately, or is control preserved while chain handling is still pending?

You do not lose control in the middle of that pending-chain process. Cleanup and pending trigger handling complete first, and control checks are applied according to that finished state progression.
