Does Shield apply passively during a Showdown before Stupefy resolves?

I move Diana, Lunari to Startipped Peak where my opponent has Scuttle Crab and Mutated Mouser defending. On my Focus I play Stupefy on Mutated Mouser.

My opponent claims Shield is a passive that applies before Stupefy resolves. Is Shield a passive that does not use the chain?
