If I kill my only unit to play Stalking Wolf with Ambush, does the play fail?

I want to Ambush Stalking Wolf to a battlefield where my only unit is a Poro I plan to kill as part of playing the Wolf. After paying that cost there are no other units I control at that battlefield. Does the Poro still die, or does the entire play fail?

Annie, Dark Child helped conquer this turn. At end of turn, can I use Annie's reaction to ready 2 runes, or is that window no longer available after the conquer sequence has finished?
